The O2 Academy on Westgate Road has been bought and is to be rebranded Audio.

The rebrand was thought important in case people didn’t realise it was a music venue and the original obvious name of ‘Soundwaves enter the outer ear and travel through a narrow passageway called the ear canal, which leads to the eardrum and are converted into electric impulses through a complex series of mechanical and electrical signals that are interpreted as sound by the brain’ was considered too on the nose and wouldn’t fit on the billboard.

Apart from the name change, the new owners have applied to have a glass extension nailed to the top of the building so smokers can not see the gig they paid money for in more comfortable surroundings.
