If I owned a well known established pub in the middle of Newcastle next to a train station, do you know what I would do?  I would rename it, for example, if I owned the Crown Posada I would rename it Jugs, pull all the wood out of it and have a DJ booth at one end. 

And that is exactly what has happened to The Union Rooms and it is to be renamed after another famous geordie landmark- ‘Okana’.

What the fuck is Okana? What’s the point of renaming it? Everyone will still call it The Union Rooms so why not just leave it alone? People aren’t that stupid to think that there is going to be some sort of huge change just because you changed the name.

I’ll take that back, people buy iPhones,  

It is thankfully no longer part of the Great Satan (Wetherspoons) so I will pop in when the lockdown is over properly to check out the recent refurb and rename.
