I think it was Gandhi who said ‘You have got to be fucking kidding me’’. The Dolphin in Farringdon, Sunderland has been voted the Sunderland Echo pub of the year.

My mate lived facing it and I could never convince him to go into it because it was ‘A Bit Rough’ – bear in mind that we drank in the Doxy Lad and The Prospect. Trying to get my mate into The Dolphin was like trying to baptise Damien, but with more of screaming and clawing 

Anyway it won an award voted for by Echo readers –  for the 4th year in a row
