Nothing strikes fear into beer bore more than when a beloved bar gets a makeover. You only have to look at the state of the Newcastle Arms or The Shakespeare in Durham to realise the damage an interior designer with a Dulux pastel colour chart can do to a pub.
The opening up of the upstairs a few years ago gave The Strawberry two distinct feels to the bar- the downstairs bar was for drinking ale and shouting at the telly when football was on, and upstairs was a bit more, erm… ‘trendy’.
Both were good with the upstairs being a sun trap of melanoma proportions.
We will of course pop in to cast our sarcastic eye over it.
