It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that the Yates Wine bar is closing in Newcastle city centre. What this inevitably means is that the people who drink in there will be forced to move to the bars in the surrounding areas. Lets hope they make the short jaunt to the Rose and Crown.
Yates opened to much fanfare back in 1999, I had great hopes for it, it was in a landmark building and I was hoping it was going to be done out in a way like the Union Rooms. It was more Butlers than the Botanist.
It was awful.
But rest easy as the bar is being turned into a Slug and Lettuce, which-as you all know- are awful bars. So thankfully the quotient of crap chain pubs will remain unchanged.
