Renamed : Blu Bar
Springhill Shopping Centre
Killeen Avenue,
BT19 1ND

There can’t be many octagonal pubs in the country, which makes the Viscount of Clandeboye worth a visit. It’s a modern pub, about fifteen years old, right beside Springhill Shopping Centre, and is named after Lord Dufferin, Viscount of Clandeboye.

The main bar is the upstairs one, octagonal of course, and high-ceilinged, done in dark green with high, narrow Gothic windows here and there and a display of different coats- of arms, family crests, and emblems. The front face of the bar counter carries on this theme of medieval escutcheons, but most interesting is the series of sixteen imitation stone carvings of figures and scenes from the Middle Ages.
These follow a sequence, tell a story, and present a comprehensive picture of the life of a medieval Lord, including his hunting and fishing.

The pub is roomy, comfortable, and carpeted throughout, and offers a very good menu. The downstairs bar is half the size, half the octagon, and offers a contrast in style and decor. Its low ceiling, wooden beams, and country-style rough walls make it quite distinct from its big brother above.
Is there a touch of irony in the sign behind the bar?
